The Humsafar girl never ceases to surprise us. Qurat-ul-ain Balouch aka QB (her better-known stage name) is a Pakistani singer whose voice made a strong connect with the Indian audiences with the title track of Humsafar (popular Pakistani soap starring Fawad Khan, which was telecasted in India last year).
Her first official single titled Bewafaiyaan, was released earlier in 2015. While Woh Humsafar Tha brought her to light in India, she is already a star in Pakistan for her rendition of Reshma’s hit song Ankhiyaan Nu Ren De… along with her Coke Studio, Pakistan stint with Jal The Band in a song called Panchi.
Her latest track #Saaiyaan makes a great showcase of her tone of voice, powered by hard-hitting rock riffs and a great hook on rhythm. The track with a-la kalaam-e-Bulleh Shah for inspiration, captures your attention, right with the first line in QBs deep voice:
‘Apne Taan Di Khabar Nahi, Sajan Di Khabar Lave Kaun, Na Mein Khaki, Na Main Aatish, na Paani Na Paun/ Ve Bulaya Saaiyaan, Ve Ghut Ghut Royeaan…’
#IMFO verdict: We can’t say enough about her unique voice and how beautifully this Virginia-based singer of Pakistani origin, takes her own sweet time to come out with music to do justice to that raw, heavy rare texture of voice.
I had the pleasure of interacting with her on a few occasions — stylish, spunky and wild spirit would be some terms that come to my mind to describe her.
Her clothes and make-up and accessories are on point. QB is stylistically always one-up from contemporary women artists on either sides of the border.
Watch this space. We may have a surprise for fans of QB and good music from across the world soon.
